In 1982 the newly formed DOC Department, part of the Administration Unit, was organized into four groups to bring together sections which had common interests and abilities.

• composition-imprimerie group, which included the central Text Processing Section and the CERN Printshop,
• exhibition and mail office group,
• editorial group, which consisted of the translation and minutes from Office and Services of the Director General, scientific reports and publication sections from Data Handling Division (DD),
• Scientific Information Services SIS (Library and Archives) from Data Handling Division (DD).

1986 saw major changes in the administrative structure of CERN, DOC was dissolved and

• composition-imprimerie was added to the Office and Services of the Director of Administration
• exhibition, translation minutes services and publication were added to the services of the Director-General
• mail office group went to the Technical Services (ST) Division
• SIS was added to the Theory Division (TH).
